Review: Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto

Star Driver: Takuto of the Radiance

Alex: Star Driver is a mecha/slice of life series which focuses on a formula and it follows it almost every single episode. If we stand back and look at the basic tale, the Galactic Pretty Boy has to defeat the Glittering Crux brigade to get a happy ending and save the girl.If you managed to read the names without bursting into laughter, you could get on with this series. With a heavy dose of FABULOUS, the series is a really entertaining ride from start to finish.

The story isn’t saved by some game-breaking plot twist, it’s saved by the way they pull it off. Even though the whole series is cliche. It combines fun, amusing slice of life with flashy robot fights. The robot fights do take part in Zero Suspense-I mean Zero Time, but you can forget that there’s almost no substance by the fact that they’re so fabulous and they probably focus completely on attractive visuals to make your eyes orgasm and cry out in satisfaction.

In fact, Taubern is probably the most pimping robot in existence, and Takuto is a born badass, not to mention the fact that he’s probably the hottest male lead in existence. The side cast is also brilliantly developed, too. They’re all enjoyable characters which work well with Takuto to enhance the fabulousness of the story.  Everyone’s a bishie, everyone’s cool, and everyone’s a pimp full of glittering brilliance.

The selling factor in Star Driver is entertainment. Pure, pure entertainment. Here’s hoping to a movie or something to finish it, though.
