My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute Specials
Alex: Staying true to the routes of a visual novel, in an attempt to keep the fans, animate another novel and set the hook for a second season, Oreimo decided to webcast 4 episodes, which detail the “real” ending of the series, not the ending which the series actually ended with. Whilst I have some doubts about the true intentions behind this (cough sell more BD’s cough), more of the this series can’t be a bad thing…right?
If you wanna know my view on the series, there is a very badly written review of it from back when I wasn’t used to writing these, but my view hasn’t changed. It takes a bunch of clichéd parts of anime, a premise that should make everyone recoil in horror, but for some reason it’s hilariously funny. The sister is the biggest tsundere to ever exist, but she’s out of the picture. That’s right…it’s time to appeal to the fanbase with Kuroneko!
That said, this isn’t actually so bad. It’s about making Kuroneko fit in at a high school, with all her religious views on anime and friendship and dating and well, everything. Obviously, being a weirdo magnet, you attract the homo-loving girl a bunch of otaku by joining a computer club, but..it could be worse. It’s actually done really well, with a nice touch of reality and seriousness on the surface of some of the series best punchlines and jokes.
If every series who’s setting the line for a second series does this, then the anime world would be a better place. I can’t describe how much i’m looking forward to that possible S2, and that’s all because this series of DVD Special’s took the show to a brand new place. It’s almost the perfect example of how to do an OVA. Now, if only people would learn from this…
