To The Forest of the Firefly Lights
From the author of Natsume comes a movie project, Hotarubi no Mori. It’s actually a similar premise to Natsume, with an average girl meeting a spirit one day when she gets lost in the “mountain gods” forest. With such a simple premise, and the authors being the same, and the topic and theme being the same, Natsume Yuujinchou comparisons are afoot.
Well, firstly. Natsume’s got better charaterization. Natsume also has better artwork. For the 44 minutes you’ll spend watching this, you’d be better off watching the first episodes of Natsume. Maybe i’m looking at this with the wrong mindset, but I fail to see the purpose of this short movie. Yeah, it’s cute, it’s charming and it’s really rather heartwarming to watch, but…the writer’s done some so amazingly similar to it which is a successful series currently in it’s 4th season. Unless you don’t want to commit to a new series, I don’t see why you’d watch this over Natsume. So yeah. Nothing more to say, really.
