Review: Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

Fate/Stay Night Movie – Unlimited Blade Works

Unlimited Blade Works is adaptation of Rin’s route, and instead of focusing on Saber, it focuses on Archer and Rin much more. Out of the three routes on offer, I always preferred this one, so it was a real treat to see it brought to life.

I don’t want to go into spoilers, but whilst they did adapt the route, they didn’t fix the problem of the original. Granted, they managed to ensure that Shirou remained cool in this route, they skipped out on too many of the thought processes, and cut out a lot of the explanations.

As such, this film could be considered a condensed version of the Fate/Stay story, and it’s my opinion that it’s much better than the 24 episode anime was. For one, the story itself is much better than the Saber story, and even though it goes way too quickly, at least it understands what it’s adapting, and not that it’s just adapting the story that’s already been adapted.

In the end, this makes it a great watch for those who’ve seen/read Fate/Stay, and want to see an alternative route, something even better than the Saber route. But sadly, the way it rushes through the huge route (It would need at least 24 episodes to do it justice) can only be described as one of it’s flaws, and puts any newcomers off starting their experience here.
