First Impressions: Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun

Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun

Here comes a blast from the past. This one is basically a youkai anime, with bishies and plotlines that feel like they’ve  come from the good old days, with the animation design and characters reflecting that. The show’s incredibly niche right now, and whilst it had some good points like the mystery element of things and the inclusion of folk legends, it feels a little bit too much like a reverse harem…and it doesn’t really help that I don’t like most the main cast already. But my opinions of bratty children aside, when watching it, you get a feeling that it’s very much retro. Yet, I suppose that you could argue that it’s retro for a reason, and the retro element of the show is what will make it worth watching. It may have an all-star cast onboard, but…well, I really need to see the second episode of the show before I can say if it’s actually something that i’d recommend watching…even though it looks to be one of the best things airing this season.
