A “Friend”…His name is N!!
The P2 lab appeared in the start, along with N trying to activate a computer of Genesect’s images. Whilst his appearance in this anime is pretty odd, it should be a good ride.
With N spotting Pikachu and also boarding the boat to Dragonspiral Tower, he instantly seems to bond with Pikachu…because he heard it’s voice. That element of N was odd in the game, but this takes that odd to a new level. However, the even stranger thing is the way in which he reacts to Reshiram’s name. That was a pretty fascinating flashback, but that’s not what caught my fancy.
Think back to the very first day, where Zekrom appeared in front of Satoshi and used Bolt Strike to make Pikachu ill. It’s not long before N starts telling stories of the Hero of Black and Hero of White and the way that ideals are transforming the world. I’m reminded a lot of N in the games, especially how he reacted to the idea of battling. After walking off in a quiet rage the moment he heard Satoshi was a trainer, I have to admit that my interest was perked to a new peak.
With Satoshi and Iris continuing their battle, Kibago walks off following a food trail, and Team Rocket shows themselves yet again. However, when Team Rocket tries to attack Satoshi’s Pokemon…N jumps in front of the attack. I had no idea that he was “that” opposed to the idea of battling. However, Team Rocket aside, N’s power…well, N actually summoned wild Alolmola out of the ocean to cast Refresh on Pikachu. That’s a really interesting way for them to display his talent and ability.
Alright, so we’ve had N, the new main character and subject of endless amounts of hype, so what do I think of it? That is a really hard question to answer. I mean, I really like what they’re trying to do here, and I really like the methods they’ve used. But something about the entire concept of N so far seems ever so slightly off. He gets angry at the drop of a hat, he jumps in front of attacks, he tries to lecture villains, he can control wild Pokemon and he seems to have set his mind on Satoshi being the Hero of Black. I can’t put my finger on what was iffy about him, but I want to see more…so it’s probably a good thing?
