Level E Episode 4

From the DARKNESS

Summary: Prince Baka only appears in the last 2 minutes.

Mimi: Wow, talk about different. This episode is nothing like the previous ones, but in the end, it’s just another one of Baka’s twists which I kinda fell for again. *sigh!* It begins when a group of male high school students suddenly witness a girl getting eaten by a man, and they become extremely paranoid afterwards. As you can see, the artwork is very different here and really resembles that comic look. It’s also pretty dark and gritty all the way through, which is very effective for telling the story. Continuing on with that, the students meet a scientist who conducts research on aliens, and they ask him to investigate the man who ate the girl. It turns out that he is one of their classmates, and he’s an alien from a certain race that eats women to create children. Fortunately for the male students, this means that they’re not in any kind of danger, and the case is somewhat solved after the alien leaves town from his own torment and guilt.

But like I said, in the end…all of this is actually fake. This is just some kind of movie that Baka made to convey the truth about aliens to humans. And hey, whaddya know, he’s a brilliant movie director too! I mean, I was pretty engaged in the entire story. But of course, the movie is definitely not suited for its intended purpose, which is the  funniest thing about it. Oh Baka, what in the world are we gonna do with you? Anyway, I’m loving the variation in these episodes!

Level E Episode 3

“Risky Game”

Summary: Prince Baka pulls off the greatest prank in anime ever.

Mimi: Woooow. Well wasn’t that just brilliant? This episode solved all my serious “Oh no, what’s going to happen now?!” questions by revealing the past couple episodes to be one big joke. And what a joke it was! Baka’s crash landing, his lost memories, his encounter with Yukitaka, and the dead Disckonian were all faked and planned out from the very beginning. Heck, even Miho’s father knew about it! Why, you ask? Because Prince Baka merely wanted to test the loyalty of his subordinates, Captain Kraft, Sade, and Colin. I gotta say, the guy’s name continues to suit him more and more. -_-;;

I really have to hand it to Level E for executing the prank so incredibly well. It’s impressive because it took 3 episodes to properly set up, and it involved loads of characters. The best part of all was the hilarious ending, especially Kraft’s reaction, as he was the first one to discover what was really going on. Even I was fooled all the way through, asking all those serious questions for nothing. =P Well, the Disckonians seemed a little fishy during their final act, but I didn’t realize that the joke included everything. This really made up for the greatest laugh yet.

It also surprised me when the series jumped 3 months ahead and Prince Baka simply returned to his planet. I thought that Baka would have amnesia and live with Yukitaka through the entire show, but it threw all of my expectations out of the water. For once, I really can’t predict what’s going to happen next, but at least I learned my lesson (along with Kraft) not to take things too seriously…especially whenever Baka is concerned. I’m looking forward to more surprises and jokes though!

Level E Episode 2

“Run After the Man”

Summary: An alien race called the Dogurians come searching for their “Prince Baka.”

Mimi: Hah, I am loving this series more and more! What a hilarious episode. The comedy between Yukitaka and Baka is just getting better, and now they have a bunch of new problems to deal with. I like how Yukitaka gets all protective and worried over Baka, and in the next moment, he just beats him up like a punk. But I guess you can’t blame him because Baka’s behavior is becoming increasingly difficult to deal with, considering that he runs away again and murders yet another person…and not just any person either.

So a group of Dogurians land on Earth to search for Baka and to bring him back to their planet. One of them is called Captain Kraft who has been responsible for guarding Baka, but like Yukitaka, he is hot-headed and gets easily irritated over Baka’s antics. It seems that they carelessly enter the territory of the Disckonians, another alien race living among the Earthlings, so they have to explain their situation. They simply tell them that they’re searching for someone and go on their way.

In the meantime, Yukitaka and Miho are wandering around town looking for Baka because he ran off again. Miho isn’t stupid, so she knows that Baka is an alien and understands the situation even more than Yukitaka does. They finally find him in a café, and Baka tells them about a recent experience where he encountered a gang in an alleyway and saved an innocent girl who was being harassed by them. They thought that Baka did a great thing until they realize that he killed one of the guys, and he’s hiding the body in a trash can.

When they return to Yukitaka’s apartment, the Dogurians are there and try to take Baka with them. It’s no easy task because Baka has absolutely no memory of them and refuses to go. Captain Kraft explains that they’re actually in the middle of escorting Baka to a very important conference, and if he doesn’t show up, thousands of planets will be destroyed. What follows next is a hilarious argument between Captain Kraft and Yukitaka, and Baka brings his victim’s body into the room. The Dogurians discern that the victim was a Disckonian, and well, that’s pretty darn troubling.

Geez, I’ve said a mouthful, but that just comes to show how much stuff really happened in this episode. There was a lot to learn, but the information was presented in an extremely entertaining and amusing way. The conflicts just seem to keep piling on top of everyone; let alone the conference, how are they going to deal with the Disckonians now? How will they get Baka to return to his planet? When will he recover his memories? How fast is Miho’s father going to crack down on them? So…much…chaos!

Alex: Just pointing out that this is brilliant…^.^ Had me in stitches throughout.

First Impressions:Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?, Level E

Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?

Alex: I actually had to lie down after watching this. And I mean. Seriously. Lie.Down. On a bed. But yeah, standard rom-com apart from that. Guy lives with cute girls, has a magical power against one of the girls to make her loose all her clothes.Oh, and he’s a zombie. And he lives with a necromancer from the Underworld and a Masou Shoujo. Who has a transformation scene. But its okay because he’s a magical girl now with his own transformation scene and his own panty shots.

Mhmm…hmm >.>

Mimi: Alex forgot to mention that the OP song is actually amazing. But other than that, this was more painful to watch than IS: Infinite Stratos.

Level E

Mimi: Aliens! UFOs! Strange technology! Healing powers! Yeah, I’m gonna like this. The premise is pretty unusual; basically, we have a high school boy who is passionate about baseball and is suddenly living with another man—cough—alien that is wanted for murder. Although the boy has lead a normal life up until now, he isn’t quite your typical average Joe either…he just seems ‘different’ (maybe its his character design and hobby). Their interactions are pretty comical (high five for the ET reference), and I’m very curious to see where this series will go. Loved the freaky alien bit at the end!

Alex: Just adding to the fact that Mimi forgot to mention this was hilarious and amusing. Probably the best new show i’ve seen premier so far. Gay pedo alien ftw!

Mimi: I did say that they were comical. Which means amusing. >>
