Digimon Xros Wars Episode 11

“Xros Heart Burns!”

(1-hour special second half)

Mimi: Umm can somebody say awesome? This is really the first episode with a dark atmosphere that Digimon Xros Wars has to offer (other than that earlier, cheesy snippet of Taiki’s past). The OST suddenly gets good here, and the animation is above average.

For starters, Akari is beginning to feel insecure about her place on the team. I don’t blame her because she’s been incredibly useless. Ever since Taiki passed out, Zenjirou has been defending the castle against new enemies by ordering everybody around, and Akari simply has nothing to do. Suddenly, she hears Lillithmon calling out to her disguised as her mother’s voice and is lead to a mirror. From there, she gets hypnotized to find the code crown for Lillithmon on the agreement that she can return to the human world with it.

Akari obtains the code crown very easily, and Lillithmon brings out a new giant enemy to attack the castle. She eventually freezes everybody and everything into ice crystals. Taiki finally wakes up to join the fight, but by then, Lillithmon is retreating with Akari to her lair. There, she tries to get the code crown from her, but Akari can’t seem to let it go. Resulting to use force, she almost strikes her when Taiki shows up at the last second. He convinces Akari that she is needed, and the others (Dorulumon, Cutemon, etc) back him up on it. So she snaps out of her trance, scratches Lillithmon’s face, and rejoins her friends. (Eh, honestly though, no..she is not needed to help them out with anything. Where’d they get that crazy idea? Okay okay, the power of friendship, I get it..)

Shocked at the blood smeared across her cheek, Lillithmon goes berserk. Taiki uses his Digimon to DigiXross with Knightmon for the first time. I have to say, this is the coolest form that his Digimon have taken on so far. They defeat Lillithmon’s puppets, she disappears, and everything returns back to normal. They have a fun and dandy celebration back at the castle.

Ok, now for the really awesome part. We suddenly see Nene with Kiriha in a dark, windy place, and she declares that she has chosen him to work with her. She reveals her black XrosLoader and her Digimon, Sparrowmon, which both impresses and shocks Kiriha. What is going to happen now? Seriously. I had thought of them as relatively good guys, but…who is Nene, really?

I have to give Digimon points for steadily improving for 4 consecutive episodes. It really needed this 1-hour special badly. I sure hope that this series doesn’t dwindle from here. *Edit: Ok, people on the MAL forum are saying that this will be on hiatus until October 12th… I guess no more Digimon for a few weeks..
